Before your first launch
Do I need to own the game?
You need your own copy of Jedi Academy or Jedi Outcast with the original game files. JKNet does not include or distribute them.
Does JKNet change my game folder?
No. It reads the original files and keeps engines, mods and settings in its own client folders.
Do I need Steam or an account?
Steam is not required to launch. JKNet works with Steam, GOG or a manually selected game folder. An account is only needed for friends and invitations.
What is in the published release?
Version 0.12.0 supports Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast, community engines, the PK3 library and editor, the built-in JKHub catalog, 3D previews, media, configs and the server browser. Bundles are ready-made sets of clients, published to JKNet Online and installed in one go. The preview shows the whole contents of a PK3 file: maps, images, fonts, translation strings, shaders and menus. Sign in with Discord or JKHub for friends and invitations.
Can I sign in with JKHub?
Yes. In version 0.12.0, you can create a JKNet Online account with Discord or JKHub. The JKHub catalog and file downloads work without signing in.
Which operating systems are supported?
A Windows x64 installer is published. JKNet installers for Linux and macOS are not available.
How are chats stored?
JKNet Online keeps chat messages and files for 90 days, then deletes them. Backups keep them for up to 14 more days. Chats have no end-to-end encryption. Only your JKNet friends can message you directly or add you to a group.
What does JKNet Online keep about communities?
When you play on a server from the JKNet launcher, JKNet Online records which servers you played on, on which days and for how long, and deletes these records after 90 days. Backups keep them for up to 14 more days. If you play on a community’s servers regularly, the community lists you among its regular players: the list is public and shows your name and your last day of play. Turn off “Show me in the regular players of communities” in the launcher settings or on the Privacy screen of the web app at online.jknet.app to leave every list, and JKNet Online deletes your play history. It also keeps the communities you follow and your answers to events. The JKNet bot reads only the channels everyone can see, and only on the Discord servers whose administrators added it.
